Our Grade 1 and 2 students were very lucky to have Alma Fullerton read her Blue Spruce nominated book, A Good Trade, to them today. Alma shared the writing process as well as the steps involved in illustrating a picture book. We enjoyed her presentation and we now realize just how much work is involved in publishing a book! To find out more about Alma and her books visit http://almafullerton.com/Welcome.html .

With the winter season in full swing we would like to celebrate our winter weather and continue building our school spirit by hosting the 1st annual Mundy’s Bay Winter Olympics. Students in Grades 1 through 8 will participate in this event on Friday, February 28th, 2014. This will be an all-day outdoor event where students will be participating in a variety of activities such as cooperative games, sports, as well as a few silly and humorous events. While participating in the Winter Olympics your child will be assigned a team that will include students from all grade levels. The teams will be led by intermediate students and supervised by school staff throughout the day.
In order for the students to enjoy all the events, it is essential that they arrive to school dressed for our winter weather. They will be outside for much of the school day. Layering their clothes would be best so that students stay warm while outside and comfortable inside the building. Students that are cold will be brought into warming stations, then they will return outside to continue participating in the activities. We would strongly encourage sending in extra mitts, hats and socks incase these items get extremely wet.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event please contact the school at 705-526-2091.

The EFSL application form will be available from 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22nd until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 23rd.
The application will be linked from the French as a Second Language page under ‘Programs’ at www.scdsb.on.ca .
There is limited space in the French Immersion program. applications are time stamped as they are received and spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the spaces are filled, we will create a wait list. We will do our very best to accommodate all interested students. This is impacted by space at the school and staffing.
The Extended French program is open-access, meaning all students who apply will have a space in the program. For both programs, there is a minimum number of students required in ordered to establish classes. If for some reason we don’t reach the minimum, again, we will try to accommodate interested students at another site.
If you don’t have internet access or need help with the application for any other reason, you can contact your current school principal.

We have had a wonderful week of Christmas assemblies. Students enjoyed singing carols, participating in performances and watching the staff participate in “Minute to Win It” challenges. Today’s assembly ended with a performance by The Rubrics. What a wonderful end to a great week!
We wish all of our Mariner families an enjoyable holiday! We will see the students back at school on Monday, January 6, 2014!
